Filter/Drip

Drip coffee machine brews coffee by automatically pouring hot water over ground coffee in a filter, letting it slowly drip into a carafe for a smooth, balanced cup. Machines vary in features, size and design and this guide is for the most commonly found models.

Grind Size

Medium

Brew Time

3:30-4:30

Water

1000ml at 200°F/93°C

What you'll need

  • Filter/Drip Machine
  • Some Good Coffee
  • Grinder (or pre-ground coffee)
  • Electric Scales & Timer
Step 1

Prepare

  1. Weigh out 1000ml of cold, preferably filtered water and pour into machines reservoir.
  2. Place a paper filter in the basket and rinse thoroughly with hot water to remove any papery taste (optional). Discard rinse water.
  3. Add 60g of coffee (medium grind, similar to table salt) to the filter basket.
Step 2

Brew

  1. Start brewing. On some machines this happens automatically when you switch it on - on others you’ll need to press the start button.
  2. Allow the machine to complete the brew cycle.
Step 3

Enjoy!

Once the cycle is complete, pour your coffee into a mug and enjoy. If you allow the coffee to cool for a minute or two it will help enhance the flavour.

Step 4

Adjust

If you find your brew is too strong or too weak you can adjust the grind size and/or dose of coffee.
